The first steps of Parsemains
The short story...
Parsemains was born out of a beautiful love story...
A story that speaks of love, respect and commitment... For the know-how of our ancestors, for our planet, for its inhabitants. Because we believe that what we love deserves to be preserved and encouraged.
That in turn, our scattered papers convey, along with our human messages, part of a larger message to nature.
How the idea came about
It all started with a bit of a hoarding problem (or not much of one). In fact, we had decided to soundproof our cellar using as few polluting materials as possible. So, spreading the word to our little network, within a year we had amassed an impressive collection of egg cartons, of all colours.
And then, of course, we had changed the project for our cellar...
Underground development
We were more or less there when the first lockdown occurred. More time at home, boxes of eggs galore, a nice stock of seeds for spring, a passion for gardening but no garden to hand... It didn't take much more.
We set up shop in our cellar, which was eventually transformed into a workshop, with frames, sieves and makeshift presses, strings of sheets hanging from the ceiling, a few giggles and pellets of paper everywhere: we were experimenting. With time, we refined our recipes, perfected our techniques and got the hang of it. It's because we were getting the hang of it.
The lockdown has been lifted, the great liberation declared. Back to civilization? Except that we, the men of the makeshift cellars, didn't want everything to end there. We had to make a decision, and that's how Parsemains came into being, encouraged by our loved ones.
We now only use egg cartons to create coloured papers, to limit the waste of industrial inks, as they are already dyed. For the other papers, we have contacted several local schools so that they can provide us with the papers and notebooks used by the children. All this paper avoids the "dustbin" box, and contributes to enriching the flora of our neighbourhoods and gardens.
